Cronofy and Horato both put a scheduling API near the center of the product, and that is roughly where the resemblance ends. Cronofy is built for enterprises with compliance reviews and on-premise Exchange servers. Horato is built for product teams that want to start at $10 a month and grow into recording. The right choice depends less on features than on which of those two descriptions fits you.
What Cronofy is and who it's for
Cronofy is a calendar-sync and scheduling API with embeddable UI Elements, Smart Invites for calendar-native invitations, and support for on-premise Exchange. It claims more than 450 SaaS products as customers and over a billion events processed. A newer usage-based Meeting Agents API adds meeting recording at $0.79 to $0.59 per hour, with a $99 per month minimum.
The buyer profile is unambiguous. The certification list covers ISO 27001, 27701, and 27018, plus SOC 2 Type 2 and HIPAA. Add on-premise Exchange connectivity and you have a vendor aimed squarely at regulated industries, where procurement asks harder questions than engineering does.
Where Cronofy shines
If you sell into large or regulated organizations, Cronofy has already done the homework your security reviewers will ask about. The certification set is deeper than anything else in this category, and on-premise Exchange support matters in exactly the environments that demand those certifications. On the product side, UI Elements give you embeddable scheduling components, and Smart Invites handle invitations natively in the attendee's calendar, so you are not building that machinery yourself.
Where the two products actually differ
Surface first. Cronofy is calendar and scheduling, full stop: there are no email, contacts, or tasks APIs. Horato covers all four surfaces over Google and Microsoft accounts, with signed webhooks and delivery logs across them, plus approval-gated MCP tools with a recorded run history for agent platforms.
White-labeling works differently in each. Cronofy gives you embeddable UI Elements that live inside your application. Horato gives you hosted booking pages that run on your own domain under your own brand. Embedding components suits a product with an existing logged-in UI. Branded links suit a product that needs to hand scheduling to people outside it.
Both offer meeting recording, priced differently. Cronofy's Meeting Agents API runs $0.79 to $0.59 per hour with a $99 monthly minimum. Horato includes 10 shared recording hours in its $10 Pro plan, then $0.70 per hour managed or $0.30 per hour with your own transcription key. Horato's bot carries your tenant's brand by default at no surcharge, and recordings are kept 30 days by default, configurable from 1 to 365 days.
Pricing, in plain terms
Cronofy's published annual pricing starts with the Emerging plan at $819 per month for up to 1,000 synced accounts, then $0.69 per account. Growth is $2,399 per month for up to 6,000 accounts, then $0.35 per account. There is no meaningful self-serve tier below that, which tells you who the product is for.
Horato starts free with 3 development accounts and no card. Pro is $10 per month with 10 active accounts. Additional accounts are $1 each, or $0.75 each above 1,000, and provider connections do not raise the billable count.
The interesting part is where the curves cross. At 1,000 accounts, Cronofy's $819 floor beats Horato's roughly $1,000, and at 6,000 accounts Cronofy's Growth plan runs $2,399 against roughly $4,750 for Horato. High-volume calendar sync is Cronofy's home turf. Below that, the picture reverses completely: at 100 accounts Horato is about $100 per month while Cronofy still starts at $819, on an annual commitment. Remember also that the Horato price includes email, contacts, tasks, and the recording pool, while the Cronofy price covers calendar and scheduling.
How to choose
Ask which of these describes you, and be honest about it.
- You have a security review that requires ISO or SOC 2 Type 2 certifications, HIPAA support, or on-premise Exchange connectivity. Choose Cronofy.
- You expect thousands of synced calendars, and the $0.35 marginal rate at Growth scale drives your unit economics. Choose Cronofy.
- You want scheduling now for a small account base, without an annual contract, at $10 a month. Choose Horato.
- You need email and tasks in the same API, booking pages on your own domain, or a recording bot that carries your brand from the first call. Choose Horato.
About these numbers
